In the home's original master bathroom, the skylight has started to leak and the look and design of the space had become outdated, so the homeowners decided to undertake a major renovation that would completely revitalize their space and give them the private, relaxing master suite of their dreams. In order to achieve this goal, designers closed off the door that previously allowed guests access to the space and removed the outdated features and finishes and replaced them with elegant modern ones, such as this walnut-double vanity. Designers then used the natural light from the windows and skylight to play off the neutral wall color, making the space the perfect oasis for the couple.

The mirrored nightstand and luxurious tapestry headboard give off a glamorous sparkle in this bedroom designed by Tina Mellino, but they belie a family-friendly functionality. "Everything in this room is durable," Tina says, "because I designed it as an adult guest suite where the client's grandchildren could also come to play video games. The duvet cover, for example, is a soft machine-washable linen." The wall behind the bed features a custom-mixed coppery paint treatment from Variance that's applied with a trowel and lightly buffed. "It creates a wonderful soft texture that reflects light differently at different times of day," Tina says.

When Erin first moved in, the accent wall behind the bed was painted a loud orange tone, the previous tenant's homage to the San Francisco Giants that play just across the street at AT&T Park. To keep the space open and airy, she and Chris painted the walls a classic white (Benjamin Moore 01), then selected a palette of light grays, muted blues and creams. To add a personal touch in keeping with the airy aesthetic of the room, Erin added photographs with special meaning for her and her husband, Chris. "I don't like having photos of people everywhere. I like photos that are more landscape or locale-based, but hold personal meaning," Erin explains. "The photograph print of Outer Banks, North Carolina means a lot to Chris and me because that's where we first met, at a friend's wedding. I gave it to him for our first anniversary. I think it's the perfect inspiration piece for creating a bedroom that's calm, serene and all about Chris and me."
