The location of the patio was determined so that the space has a great view of the lake from the pool as well as anywhere else on the patio. The pool itself is set about 18" above the home's lawn and travertine patio so as to allow seating along the coping, as well as add dimension to the space. To visually connect this space to the home, designers used the same Indiana limestone for the pool's coping as was used around the lower level of the home. Then, a travertine that complemented the stone was chosen for the floor of the patio.
Everyone hangs out here anyway so why not make it a destination room! The cabinets are custom crafted by Benchcraft Custom Woodwork, out of Rift Sawn Oak finished in a warm grey stain. The Perimeter Stone is Pietra de Cardosa and the island stone is Blanco Karibib edged in a reverse bevel.
The bright red Currey Pendants add a touch of whimsy amidst the neutral sophistication while in contrast, The Dorrivracht faucet adds a bit of edginess.

The homeowners wanted a parlor for more intimate entertaining, so designers created a warm, inviting space to meet their needs. To keep the space bright and light, designers took advantage of the tropical sunlight. A wall of windows to the right of the space lets in plenty of light that can be controlled by sheer curtains. For additional light, two slender windows line the textured fireplace surround, which adds dimension to the space. To help make the space warm and inviting, designers had wood paneled ceilings installed and brought in a beautiful baby grand piano and modern, wood chairs to complement the rich, wood floors that run throughout the house.
The colors used on walls, floors and fabrics along with unique design details are the key to updating the look of a traditional home. The console in this entry is covered with a custom skirt that features grommets that look like nail heads. Nails and tacks are used on wood and metal, but they are an uncommon addition on fabric. Additionally, the band accent incorporates curves in its design detail instead of straight lines. The mirror above the console has beautifully proportioned divisions in a mullion-like configuration around its perimeter. This edging adds both dimension and interest to the mirror, mirror on the wall.
Blue-and-white ceramic pieces can give a mantel a country chic yet glam look, like this mantel decorated by Yuni Min. She centered the mantel with a tidy collection of her hardback books. When the pages face front, you don't have to worry about purchasing new books with pretty spines. The bindings bring a bit of color that tie into the pottery. Add a wreath over the mantel (Min made this one) adds more dimension to the focal point.
Whether you are renting or owning, in a city or town for one year or in a forever home, there is no reason you can't personalize and customize your space. Emily Henderson advises you "go into your attic or box of mementoes" for artwork and sculptural elements in your home in place of expensive, original artworks. "If it's two-dimension and means something to you, it can become a piece of art." The living room coffee table is a repurposed circus elephant stand painted with black spray paint, as is the etagere in the far corner. Circular forms that bring in a hip, Eighties vibe repeat in the couch and mantel mirror and peacock blue and natural wood side tables in the room to bring cohesion and purpose.
