When deciding what kind of coffee table to buy, it's important to think about what function it will serve, says designer Rachel Greathouse. In this case, an heirloom trunk serves a new use as storage and a coffee table in this rustic space.
Carved out of a non-functional wall space, an intimate bar and serving area was designed for a family that entertains guests. A mirror wall continues the design from behind the couch while making the space feel bigger. Two ottomans were added for extra seating; they can be tucked away under the serving table when not in use.
The kitchen was renovated to reflect stylish, midcentury modern design. Floor-to-ceiling cabinets provide essential storage, and a long island serves as place to prep and dine. Bertoia barstools and light hardwood floors complete the fresh, open design.
