An innovative designer, Jasmine stepped outside the box and chose a beautiful dolomite stone countertop for her kitchen island. Since the stone is porous, she sealed it with a UV-cured acrylic for durability. She also extended the island by a couple of feet, adding a live edge piece of wood that waterfalls over one end. To save money, she kept the original kitchen countertops and cooktop, and repurposed, then painted the original cabinetry.
For a truly custom look, Jasmine replaced some of the upper cabinets with open shelving, installed a trendy square-tile backsplash and wrapped the range hood in wood, painting it to match the rest of the space.
Getting ready for the day or an evening out becomes an event to look forward to with a custom walk-in closet. Designed on a grand scale, it features his and her zones with your choice of open shelves, drawers, adjustable shelves for your entire shoe collection, and ample hanging areas that take advantage of every inch of corner space. A French Roast color with Matte Nickel hardware keeps the entire look upscale, and a floor-mounted design with base molding makes the closet a built-in part of your home.
Once closed in and dark, this newly renovated second floor landing is now light, bright and open. It is part office space, part reading room, part hangout area for the family to plan their day's activities. Custom, built-in book shelves house games, vintage first edition classics, family mementos and objects d'art, and the desk provides a space for reading and writing, adding extra function to the space.
This modern fireplace features custom touches that turn it into a focal point of this Texas living room. Stacked stone matches stone used on the exterior of the home. Decorative wood above the mantel serves as an art piece in and of itself, while narrow glass shelves display collected art glass. Copper on either side of the fire box adds warmth and reflects the firelight.
Multi-hued wallpaper in a leaf pattern picks up on the yellow cabinet fronts. The custom dry-bar provides extra counter space as well as place to store and display liquor. It's clad in oak wood that was salvaged from wood pallets then run through a planer to give it a smooth finish. Free-hanging steel shelves hanging above the bar are ideal for displaying glassware as well as some of vintage collectibles.
The circular wine room below the rear turret of this Tudor-style home is filled with custom built-in wine racks and stone shelves. Natural stone is used on most of the walls in the space, and reclaimed brick covers all of the floors. The entire space is "reclaimed" since it replaces what was once a garage and basement. Very little heat (or cooling) is used to make these subterranean spaces function properly.
