A neutral patterned area rug adds a delicate interest to this cozy bedroom, while a soft white blanket draped over the custom round ottoman by Basset Furniture ties in the room’s color scheme and provides a comfy spot to prop one’s feet up.
A special resting place was created in a second floor hallway that leads to an outdoor balcony overlooking this Houston estate. Oversized chairs, a wood pedestal center table, brass side tables and abstract artwork complement the antique wool area rug and custom draperies in a pink Ikat print.
The secret to a successful modern apartment is plenty of storage. The built-in cabinets stretch from the dining room to the living room to maximize storage and enhance both spaces. The recessed section on the living room side enlarges the space at seating level while creating end tables and a serving counter. Yellow and pale teal accent the seating area, and a zebra-print rug provides a statement piece.
This warm, earthy living room features comfortable upholstery and layered materials creating an inviting, stylish space. Bookcases around the fireplace were custom-built to house the family's book and object collection.
This classic midcentury modern home is decorated floor to ceiling with handmade objects and artisanal details. From textured art to woven jute rugs, organic elements add depth and character throughout the home.
This sunny traditional living room may be small, but natural light floods in through tall windows to make the space feel larger. A custom sectional sofa and area rug help to define the room without taking up essential square footage.
A custom floor-to-ceiling screen with a geometric pattern camouflages the nearby stairway and creates a more intimate setting for this living room. A soft peach wall color, a bold floral rug and colorful accent pillows add lively contrast to the simple white sofa.
A textured, diamond pattern on the area rug is a lovely complement to the tufted beige headboard and plush bed coverings. A sleek fireplace surround and unique layered ceiling create pleasing accents in the design.

Of course, designer know-how is what pulls it all together: “To create warmth in such a spare and simple setting it’s important to add texture. That’s where the fur rug and fur cushion come into play.”
Playful arm sconces, sophisticated fabrics, a custom rug and the balance of masculinity and femininity create a family room with broad appeal. The patterned throw pillows and rug add visual interest within an overall neutral color palette.
