A peak into this dining room showcases a dark arm chair at the head of the table surrounded with chairs draped in white slip covers. A unique wire globe light decorates the room above the dark wood dining table. Natural lighting streams in from the large windows framed in chocolate brown curtains.
Reclaimed barn wood wraps the breakfast bar and covers doorways in this contemporary kitchen, adding warmth and interest to the space. Sleek stone countertops are extra-thick in keeping with the room's modern vibe.
A neutral orange hue with marbled effect covers the high walls in this foyer. Beige molding and a natural hardwood floor finish create a calm, neutral palette to compliment the spacious feel. A mint green, glass door cabinet uses interior lighting to highlight trinkets and art stored inside. Gold greyhound statues frame the large arch doorway that leads into the home.
Create decorative kissing balls with evergreen instead of mistletoe this year. Start with a styrofoam sphere for your base, and cut fresh evergreen to the same length, and inch or two long. Hot glue a piece of twine around the styrofoam ball, and then cover the entire ball with evergreen cuttings by hot gluing them right next to each other. When the ball is covered, hang above a doorway, on a doorknob or in a corner that needs a bit of holiday cheer.
Through a colorful doorway and past a tastefully appointed parlor is a breathtaking living room. The dark stained floors, which run through the entire house, were laid by Julio, who taught himself the skills he needed to accomplish the job. The white masks that hang from the far wall are his creations as well. The masks offer a modern way to bring classic Angolan art home. The ornate fireplace, one of four hearths this home boasts, is original to the space, as is the decorative scrollwork that runs across moldings and ceilings in this room. The way that Kenza and Julio have maintained the architecture of the home, is a reminder not to remove or cover up original fixtures, but to instead accentuate them. Filling a traditional space with modern furnishings creates a unique contrast of styles that can add layers of sophistication to a room.
