The dark charcoal gray color used for the media room ceiling provides contrast for the lighter off-white walls. The speakers recessed into the ceiling are part of the home's audio system that can be controlled by smartphone, tablet or computer.
These once drab walls and ceiling are now painted a dark navy blue in a semigloss finish. The dark color tones help temper the intense chartreuse paint of the adjacent guest room, while the bold-patterned Roman shade ties all colors together for a harmonious look.
Bright red tiles against light bamboo cabinets create a lively look, and exciting contrast. The coral tile mixed with the bamboo cabinets create the modern look that the Kitchen Cousins were trying to achieve.
While the bottom of the island and the surrounding lower cabinets have a deep charcoal gray color with a wood grain look, the upper cabinets have a white linen finish that keeps things light. “I didn’t want to create a dark kitchen, but I wanted some depth,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “By keeping the darker finish below, it anchors the room visually and then adding the contrasting white up top keeps the room from darkening.”
The large windows bring lots of natural light inside and include grids painted black, which pop against the white walls. The windows are covered in floor-to-ceiling floral drapes in a graphite/dark gray color.
The kitchen’s soft white custom cabinets with brass finish hardware pop against the deep gray walls with soft white trim, and coordinate with the durable Calcutta Sienna quartz counters. A 7-inch white oak hardwood floor provides a neutral backdrop that allows all of the kitchen’s design details to shine.
To make the large space feel more cozy and intimate, designers brought in a large, padded headboard in navy blue leather. To accent this new piece, turquoise lamps were added to the nightstand on either side of the bed-the jewel tones of the accents and the bed frame creating a nice contrast between themselves and the gray walls.
The use of long rectangular shapes creates a cohesive look throughout this sharp kitchen design. Warmer toned lighting casts a soft finish over the black and white color scheme. Boxy white bar chairs line the long marble countertop for an eat-in set up facing the kitchen.
In the nursery, an orange changing table, blue changing pad and yellow sconces add colorful contrast to the neutral wall color, while a mirror shaped like sunglasses adds to the feel of adventure in this bold, colorful nursery.
To save the homeowners a little money, Chip and Joanna opted to keep the cabinets, countertop and appliances in this home's kitchen; however, they needed to add some contrast, so a neutral, stone backsplash was installed above the countertops on both sides of the kitchen, softening the dark countertops and bringing color to the space. As seen on HGTV's Fixer Upper.
A close look at this black ceramic table highlights the knots that add subtle texture to the piece. Beside it, the wicker sofa is draped with a fuzzy blanket and decorated with throw pillows featuring beautiful contrasting shades for a standout look. The natural look of the hardwood floor is perfect for the textural blend of the room.
