A tree branch coffee table topped with scalloped glass is the focal point of this contemporary living room. Black furniture creates contrast against the crisp white walls, and a gray area rug softens the space without deviating from the achromatic palette.
A polished wood coffee table reflects the natural light streaming into this contemporary living room. A neutral sofa and leather tufted stools provide seating in front of the fireplace, and plants add color and life to the design.
Stepping into the open living room reveals cool, contemporary furnishings, like a neutral sofa, floral-printed armchairs and a geometric coffee table. Though the reclaimed wood ceilings were originally brown, the designers white-washed them to make the space feel more light and airy.
Acrylic casing holds chipped wood pieces, creating a unique top for this coffee table. The natural wood is a great textural addition to the contemporary surroundings. A blue rug with white spots grounds the space and coordinates with the blue velvet sofa. Hourglass-shaped stools with velvet seats line a bar next to the living area.
The monochromatic mix of neutral tones and highly textured elements in this sophisticated living room creates a warm, calming ambiance. The chalkboard art on either side of the fireplace is installed on rolling panels that conceal generous storage space.
When you have a coffee table with an interesting shape, you don't need to do much on top. For the Southeastern Designer Showhouse & Gardens in Atlanta, designer Jonathan Savage used a small tambour table made of wire, with a glass insert. "A single table, whether made of wood or wire, if it’s really interesting and unusual, it can really make a statement," he says. For a cheaper option, use a garden stool, he says.
Candice Olson, host of HGTV's "Candice Tells All," created this living room that blends style and function. She says, "It's important to know what makes the most sense for your lifestyle and home, so don't choose colors, fabrics or even materials that won't work for your family, children or pets." This living room's rustic wood coffee table, dark upholstered armchair and patterned area rug ensure a family-friendly space.
The magic of this family room comes from the accents: Rich jewel tones in the pillows and artwork, a blue-gray coffee table. Overhead, a light fixture loops and folds in on itself, bringing movement and texture to the space.
