Recessed, light-stained wood cabinets and a wood slat ceiling add warmth and texture to this tropical, contemporary kitchen. A drop ceiling and modern pendant lights hang over the waterfall marble island. Green tile backsplash injects a subtle pop of color.
A drop ceiling adds a touch of texture to the neutral, open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room in this Cape Town, South Africa, home. Sleek lines in the kitchen are balanced by floral pendant light shades, curved-back dining chairs and the organic grain in the wood flooring.
Wall-to-wall windows showcase a stunning view of the Hawaii coast from every part of this great room. A bright blue area rug and modern, white leather sectional define the living area. The textured wooden ceiling treatment and contemporary drop ceiling add dimension and interest.
A charcoal-painted pillar easily catches the eye in this open living space, accentuating the room's tall ceilings. A custom console table connects to the piece and gives the owners another drop-zone for mail and keys.
This walkout basement had two windows providing decent light, but it was very ugly with exposed pipes, a horrible acoustic tile ceiling and old sticky vinyl flooring. At roughly 450 square feet, there was a good amount of space. The 8-foot drop ceiling made the space feel confining, so the ceiling tiles were removed and the space feels much more open and airy with the newly exposed rafters with an attractive loft-like feel. After removing ugly redundant wiring from the entire ceilings, pipes, beams and walls were sprayed white.
This bedroom was designed with a huge 12-foot wide headboard in chocolate brown mohair. The lighting and electronics are hardwired into the headboard. The beautiful ceiling was created in a geometric drop concept, including an interior dome with silver leaf painting and cove lighting.
Design challenges for this bath included incorporating a lot of storage in a relatively small bathroom, removing a drop-ceiling and integrating good lighting without the benefit of a natural light source. Two large storage towers provide plenty of space for toiletries while double sconces and recessed lighting illuminates the room.
The open floor plan creates a seamless transition between the family's most-used living spaces. Clean lines and state-of-the-art equipment make the kitchen the refined core of entertaining, while the dining room is defined by a custom-designed drop ceiling and an EcoSmart fireplace. Beyond the dining room is the living room, wet bar and frameless glass wine room, all which combine to create one sophisticated space perfect for entertaining.
As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It Too, Jillian Harris' overall design for Joyce and Steven was a mix of both their desires. Joyce wanted a timeless design that would stand the test of time and Steven wanted it to be contemporary. Big and open was another wish, so that they could fulfill their entertaining needs. The wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room was removed. The previous walls were all Popcorn Walls, now refinished and painted Silver Drop dining and living room. The Oak hardwood floors throughout the main floor were refinished. There are new casings on all the windows throughout the main floor. Within the dining room are two built-in China Cabinets, white with glass doors that were rebuilt. The ceilings were just above the windows and the greatest design surprise for Jillian was being able to open the space up by vaulting the ceilings.
A blend of traditional and contemporary styles mingle in this great room with red floral armchairs next to sleek, x-base tables. The drop ceiling with cove lighting makes the formal space feel cozy yet modern.
A custom-designed drop ceiling with sophisticated chandelier defines the contemporary dining room with sleek wooden table and streamlined black chairs. The open floor plan combines the dining room with the kitchen and on to a music room with a baby grand piano.
This dining room is completely multi-functional. A custom-designed table with a starburst center is perfect for poker night or for a formal dining setting. Four plasma screens make it easy for viewing a single or multitude of television shows. The columns sparkle in a covering of Balinese seashells. Grasscloth wallpaper covers the ceiling and adds a hint of metallic shine while a crystal chandelier drops elegantly from the mirrored ceiling.
Soon after purchasing their home, the homeowners were ready to redesign the entertaining hub of the home. A custom-designed drop ceiling with bubble pendant chandelier defines the new dining room, which pairs a chic woodgrain table with sleek black chairs. Anchored at the end of the living space is the wet bar and frameless glass wine room, each outlined with bookmatched wood walls and ceilings. The end result is a series of spaces that feature the homeowners' sophisticated style and taste.
