Being a communal space, ease of access and organized storage plays a big part in this design. Open shelving on either side of the vent-a-hood provides stylish storage of mugs and spices, while cabinets and shelves below add functional, stylish storage, putting kitchen necessities within a fingertip's reach.
The third wall in the communal kitchen is chock full of cabinets with stylish, brushed nickel door knobs and drawer pulls to help keep everything organized, while the commercial sized appliances give the space room to accommodate its many occupants.
White subway tiles and wood walls and ceilings work together to create a restaurant dining room that feels contemporary and rustic simultaneously. Long tables offer a communal dining opportunity, a homey element; bars with stools bring diners even closer to the action in the open kitchen.
Communal tables and bar tables with stools -- different types of seating areas -- create a space that's nuanced and interesting. The open kitchen clad in white subway tiles feels like a diner; the antique-style restaurant sign is a fun, antique element in the space. The resulting feel is both homey and modern.
The family room extends off the open living area and the kitchen, allowing for a communal gathering area where family and friends can spend time together. The taupe wall covering balances the white and neutral tones throughout the design.
