This young couple loves to travel, and their travel has shaped their world view. Brio Interior Design wanted to incorporate this world view into the Mid-Century design they added to this couple's first home by placing throw pillows that use different shapes, colors, textures and fabrics throughout the living space. This way, the couple can feel the influence of their travels, even in the details of their home.
Colorful indoor outdoor pillows bring tropical colors into this relaxing space. Moroccan lanterns and breezy curtains carry on in tropical style, while woven patio furniture invites guests to linger under the ceiling fan. Window screens keep out the bugs, making this a true oasis.
Before, the dining nook in this cottage was dim and dingy, with dated finishes that failed to take advantage of the room's natural light. Now, a built-in window seat serves as a banquette for a charming breakfast space. The all-white backdrop reflects light and makes colorful pillows and accessories pop.
Keep in mind that your furnishings should be in proportion not only to the actual size of the space but also to the perceived size — which can be affected by such elements as paint color or extensive areas of glass. In this project, the latter came into play. “The floor-to-ceiling windows make this small space feel larger, and to keep that open feeling the furniture needed to be scaled appropriately,” says architect Leslie Arnold. “Choosing furniture that was open at the bottom — i.e. pieces that do not go all the way to the floor — ’enlarges’ the room by allowing the entire floor to be visually unbroken. The simple, solid colored upholstered furniture allows the brightly colored rug and wall art to be the main focus of the room.”
Sunlight shimmers off a geometric, beaded wall covering which offers a playful backdrop for iridescent wall plates and a champagne metallic floor lamp. Geometric throw pillows echo the design and the playful mood of the room.
Deck out your dorm room with stylish decor ideas that won't break the rules, like this wall of painted hexagon-shaped cork pieces, attached to the wall with removable adhesive strips. You can paint the cork in hues that compliment your color scheme. Placing them over the bed allows you take advantage of wall space and display pictures and personal items without taking up any counter space.
Small wicker stools also work as side tables for serving drinks and snacks. Don’t be afraid to bring some of your indoor decor outside (if weather permits), like this fab small faux fur pillow or this indigenous concrete statue.
Two large, matching bookshelves frame the back wall complimenting the blue tones of the furniture and grounding the look of the bright, white shiplap walls. A velvet sofa is brightened with colorful throw pillows featuring floral and patterned fabrics.
A gray is a casual yet sophisticated focal point in this bright white modern sitting room. Colorful throw pillows add fun bursts of color while window lined walls allow for tons of light to pour into the space. A neutral striped rug ties this comfy space together.
Hexagon pieces create a colorful and fun personalized bulletin board to display photos and jewelry over this dorm room bed. The coral tones compliment the coral in the turquoise cat patterned comforter. Colorful, patterned throw pillows finish the fun, multicolor design.
Color infuses every corner of this living room, starting with the green ceiling and brown walls. A sofa covered with colorful throw pillows, a pair of leather armchairs and a pair of benches surround the glass-topped coffee table, creating an intimate sitting area.
A mix of plant stands add color and decoration to this bright summer porch. A tall, tile covered stand supports a sphere formed ivy while white, blue and gold stands prop up flowers that add natural color to the space. A white sectional shines against the beige walls and fun throw pillows add accent colors.
