On both sides of the home's elegant, antique fireplace and mantel, designers stacked coffee table books to add a pop of color to the space. For the finishing touch, each bench was given a white chinoiserie lamp and graphic art to complete the funky design.
The master bedroom has been designed to be a restful retreat. A mix of carved elements, Chinoiserie lamp shades and custom pillows have been used to craft a room that feels like a Parisian getaway. The pink pillows on the bed were designed by Camille. The ombre fringe in shades of coral and purple adds a colorful touch to the bed.
On the other side of the family room, a plush pink armchair cozies up next to a built-in bookshelf, creating a colorful reading corner. A golden floor lamp sits within easy reach and casts a warm glow across the space at night.
This Manhattan library starts with luxurious leather floor tiles on the walls and is finished with rich furnishings. An early 20th century French brass lamp sits on a Chinoiserie desk inlaid with bone. The red velvet sofas are designed after an antique the designer saw in Paris and have a custom trapunto back.
The shared public space at Smithfield Cottage makes use of the home's original design features like an ornate Chinoiserie wooden mantel that includes two nooks for lamps. Asian details were a common motif in the Victorian era, with the opening of China and Japan to the West, and designer Glenn Wallace has played up that historic feature in contemporary Asian elements throughout the home.
An Italian serpentine walnut three-drawer commode, a Tuscan carved giltwood mirror and an 18th century English chinoiserie tall case clock are in the foyer designed by Jacquelynne P. Lanham Designs for the Southeastern Designer Showhouse in Atlanta. The black-and-white floor has a zig-zag pattern. On the commode are two gold Ormolu ornaments on lucite bases and a pair of 1930’s Chinese green hardstone lamps with lavender shades. Two 19th century regency-style chairs with an ebony finish are underneath framed original landscape oils by Tyler Colgan.
