Two natural tree-trunk coffee tables are pushed together to form the centerpiece of a farmhouse-style living room. The coffee tables, along with a crisp linen couch, a pair of mid-century wicker chairs and decorative pillows rest atop a speckled gray and white carpet, creating a host of textures in the neutral room. In the kitchen, a shiplap island anchors the space, while carved, wooden barstools continue the natural feel from the living room.
Replacing the heavy brick mantel with a hand-carved washed wood mantel and ledge stone hearth creates a contemporary, cozy and inviting room. A quatrefoil window was added to create visual interest while bringing in another natural light source. A stylish bar is perfect for entertaining and the bar top repeats the ledge stone from the fireplace mantel creating visual continuity and connectivity. The lucite barstool backs keep it light and allow the eye to move easily throughout the space. A blue sectional and comfy club chairs are perfect for entertaining or snuggling.
An Italian serpentine walnut three-drawer commode, a Tuscan carved giltwood mirror and an 18th century English chinoiserie tall case clock are in the foyer designed by Jacquelynne P. Lanham Designs for the Southeastern Designer Showhouse in Atlanta. The black-and-white floor has a zig-zag pattern. On the commode are two gold Ormolu ornaments on lucite bases and a pair of 1930’s Chinese green hardstone lamps with lavender shades. Two 19th century regency-style chairs with an ebony finish are underneath framed original landscape oils by Tyler Colgan.
Amy has a way with mixing styles at home. In this reading nook a mid-century chair, a brass lamp from the '80s and a centuries-old carved stone fireplace come together seamlessly. Behind the lounge, two ancient tree stumps that have crystallized over millions of years are the oldest pieces in the home. And plants in earthenware pots reinforce the earth tone color scheme while adding to the nature-inspired feel of the room. Amy’s ability to layer neutrals helps bring pieces from various periods together beautifully.
