The relaxing streaming sound of water from a bubbling garden fountain is a joy to many outdoor-decor-minded homeowners; finding unobtrusive ways to power that fountain, however, can be a kink in the stress-free stream. A solar-powered fountain can go anywhere in the yard or patio, though (as long as there’s a conduit to a sunshine source!) without worrying about tripping over cords or surge-protection proximity. Some solar fountains have separate panels that stake next to the water feature, while others, like the solar fountain pictured, have an integrated solar panel in the top bowl to maximize ray-catching and minimize aesthetic distractions.
A steel-and-cedar pergola was constructed as a shady respite in the back of the yard, and a dining table added for outdoor entertaining. Nearby, a fountain made from an oversized planter bowl makes meditative background music.
As seen on HGTV's My Yard Goes Disney, homeowners Titus and Emily Green were inspired to transform their backyard after a trip to Disney's Aulani Resort and Spa in Hawaii. The tropical-inspired space features pool fountains, a surf shop to train in, a relaxing orchid garden to stroll through, and a custom forged fire bowl to sit and tell stories by.
Custom hand-carved stone statues add an artistic element to this outdoor space with swimming pool. A decorative concrete staining technique using acid chemical stains tints the concrete plinths and nearby fire bowls to match the look of the aged statue fountains. Black iridescent glass with charcoal gray grout surrounds the spa that spills into channels and back to pool.
Previously, this pool was tiny and unspectacular and even off center in the yard, so designers renovated the space to create a spacious pool with a radius vanishing edge detail that would flow into a lower trough that was design to resemble a large fountain with scalloped walls that joined the radius vanishing edge detail. Then, designers brought in fire and water bowls to add drama to the space, creating the perfect poolside paradise.
