This sleek white Parsons desk is an outstanding choice for the bedroom and blends effortlessly against the traditional floral drapes and silver antique lamp. The soft white, gray, green and blue palette invite respite from the hustle and bustle of the day. The Mediterranean-inspired wood desk chair completes the look.
“We filled it with things that made our eyes happy,” says Sonal. That meant navy blue on the walls and the ceiling (Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore) and a glass-bead chandelier from Currey & Company. The various styles of furniture, all neutrals, blend in a cool, relaxed way, including a bed with crisscrossed metal accents and a white upholstered chair (both from RH) plus a whitewashed wood nightstand by Noir.
Less is more a lot of times, and this is a prime example. The modern shape of a lounge chair and ottoman need no more than a sexy end table to hold their own in the corner of this master bedroom. The patterned carpet and soft blue-grey tones in the room are a reflection of the Atlantic waters swirling just outside the sliding glass doors.
A pair of modern tufted slipper chairs creates a cozy spot for conversation in this airy, contemporary living room. Soft gray walls provide a perfect backdrop for modern art. A contemporary bar cabinet with art deco details rests in one corner, adding to the room's party-ready feel. Designer Claire Paquin went with a gray color scheme dotted with varying shades of blue to give the space an elegant, serene feel.
The back deck of the HGTV Smart Home 2013 located in Jacksonville, FL is accented with a blue pine trestle-style table and rustic metal chairs. The dining table set presents the perfect marriage of modern and vintage-chic garden design. Composite decking in a weathered gray hue creates a neutral canvas underfoot and a built-in grill in the outdoor kitchen area finish the space.
Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines removed the wall between the homeowners' dining room and kitchen and installed a natural wood support beam in its place. The dining room is illuminated with a metal chandelier and staged with bright, comfortable chairs and a dining table set with blue plates and French Country accessories and greenery. The new French doors open to the backyard and offer additional natural light.
The neutral tones and wood details of the entryway of this home are quickly livened up by the colors in this eclectic sitting room. A blue sofa brightens up the room cushioned with a mixture of throw pillows. A contemporary red floor lamp curves over the couch, while matching black leather chairs are a great color contrast to the bright pieces.
From the get-go, there’s no mistaking this house is sophisticated and fun. The black-and-white cabinet from AllModern and the arrangement of abstract art—a canvas from Grandin Road and framed pieces by Kim Curran—have gallery appeal. Meanwhile, the symmetry of the blue West Elm lamps and caned chairs from CB2 give the setup an elegant touch.
Bright blue accents and lush plantings brighten this urban terrace, creating an ideal spot to unwind or to entertain friends. A clean-lined woven sofa mixes with basket-weave chairs in a rubbed gold finish, resulting in a comfortable space that's at once modern and cozy. A "wall" of plants behind the seating area adds privacy and turns the space into a true outdoor room.
Something that can become tedious once winter sets in is having to move outdoor furniture in once temperatures approach freezing. Make it easy by choosing lightweight pieces that are easy to move around and store. Here, navy blue bean bag chairs were used due to how comfy they are and how simple it is to keep them stacked and stored away.
The great thing about ottomans is their versatility. They can be moved around the room. A plush fabric like this blue velvet adds richness and tucked into a corner with a complement of pillows this ottoman becomes the perfect conversation spot. Pillows with metallic details, metal chairs and side tables and a mirror reflect candlelight and make the room glow come evening.
David and Kortney wanted to keep the living room open and simple, so they brought in a neutral sofa to complement the white walls, neutral stone fireplace and natural light of the space. Then, they added color by adding blue and green striped chairs with mint accents throughout the space to keep things stylish and bright.
Stunning wood and plasterwork moldings and details define this elegant space. Sage green trim molding stands out against the bright aqua walls for added visual interest. A chair and sofa upholstered in a peach floral pattern pops against the blue walls and add a warm color to the room's cool palette. An ornate mantel with a floral carving complements the floral-patterned furnishings to unify the space.
With floor to ceiling windows and plenty of natural light, this eclectic living room seems to glow. A light blue sofa, bold pillows and peacock artwork keep the space light and bright, while black floors and dark leather chairs add some contrast in the space. To give the open room more definition, a rug was placed under the sitting area, designating its boundaries and connecting all of the unique pieces.
This dining room is a perfect example of the designer’s "Afro-minimalist" style. On the wall, a painting from the local gallery brings the room’s palette of black, blue and blush tones together. Around the table, a mix of modern dining chairs shows that minimalism doesn’t have to be boring. And soft, tufted rug is a callback to the living area, creating a sense of continuity and completeness between the two rooms.
To help define the sitting area in the midst of this large space, designers started with a neutral rug. Then, they brought in a blue, Midcentury Modern sofa to add seating on the wall side of the space and two oversized, pink Midcentury Modern chairs on the window side to allow light to flow through the seating and into the main entertaining space, helping to create that open feeling in the design itself.
If you love color but don’t exactly love a busy, eclectic interior consider rehabbing a piece or two in a bold color. These mid-century club chairs had sleek lines and were solidly built, so it made sense to reupholster them. The bold blue fabric pops and is durable enough to hold up to another 50 years of use.
The dining room’s traditional furnishings feel modern and contemporary with a mix of colorful pieces. An IKEA cabinet was painted in a rusty red and hardware was added to upgrade the piece. Pink dining chairs from World Market, a home decor staple in Los Angeles, have a vintage appeal with their fun fan detail. And a tufted settee in white stands out beautifully in the blue dining room.
