The coastal breakfast nook is framed by windows topped with pink block print window treatments. Charming banquette seating is paired with a rustic table and chairs, and an airy white drum pendant is an eye-catching focal point. The finished result is an inviting, clean and colorful nook.
This side chair is a perfect moment demonstrating the layering of color and pattern that is central to this interior’s design. A mid-century chair has been upholstered in a festive block print pattern. To top it off, an African wax print pillow by a favorite Brooklyn boutique, xNasozi (http://www.osxnasozi.com/), completes the color story.
The exterior roofline creates a gabled ceiling in the master bedroom of HGTV Green Home 2010, punctuated by bold colors and feminine touches. The four-poster bed, which carpenter David Brown crafted from old doors purchased at Habitat for Humanity, is dressed in a collection of mod pillows and organic cotton sateen sheets, block-printed by hand.
The walls of this coastal breakfast nook are painted a fresh white, Benjamin Moore's Swiss Coffee, highlighting the gray of the charming banquette bench. A natural oak stained table and dining chairs are paired with a white airy drum light for a modern touch. Designer Becki Owens ties the look together with the pink block print fabric of the window treatments and pink and neutral throw pillows.
White walls and high ceilings accented by arched entryways set the stage for a multi-layered design moment. The seating is the star in this space with two side chairs upholstered with handira - traditional Moroccan wedding blankets. Behind them a beaded Yoruba Chair showcases a colorful pattern. On the sofa, an Indian Kantha quilt covers the seat cushions accented by Indian block-print pillows. Add to that an ornately carved wooden coffee table, a beautifully decorated fireplace mantle and loads of art and accessories, and you have a perfectly designed desert oasis.
The metallic headboards in the guest bedroom of the HGTV Design Star cast house are custom-made from pattern-printed hides, batting and blocks of wood. A rattan serving tray is prepped for an afternoon in bed with a book and cup of tea.
Bold draperies and a peacock blue sofa create an eye-catching vignette in this modern breakfast nook. A tufted velvet settee has a curved design that hugs the oval dining table, and three klismos chairs on the opposite side continue that custom fit without blocking the view. A collection of similarly framed prints adds interest on the walls.
The design goal in the family room was to maximize seating using stylish and comfortable pieces, so designers set up the main seating area with a custom, gray velvet sofa, a pair of velvet, pin-stripe wingback chairs and a par of wood framed swivel chairs. For a punch of pattern, they layered a zebra print cowhide rug under a brass and glass cocktail table, while a rectangular Swarovski crystal chandelier brings glam into the space without blocking the view of the city below. Finally, an element of art was added to the large TV wall with metallic gold and silver discs that perfectly finish off the design of the room.
