A little color and pattern goes a long way in this small sitting room, where black and white valances dress up the windows – and even the door. A whimsical area rug and neutral love seat anchor the seating area, while fresh tulips add a shot of vibrant color.
A tufted turquoise sofa fits perfectly in the window nook of this eclectic sitting room. Floor length metallic curtains frame the windows creating a natural shine in the room. A purple tufted bench complements the purple lines in the diamond pattern of the hot pink walls. Black and white chairs finish the mix of seating.
Designer Brian Paquette packs this small condo's living room with loads of style. Large windows fill the space with ample light and highlight the metal bookshelf, round coffee table and simple black and white striped rug. Hot pink flowers add a pop of bright color to the mostly neutral palette.
A purple wall is countered with a hot pink bar with a white countertop stretching the length of the room. A black and white rose floral wall is decorated with bright multicolor butterflies. Butterflies hanging in the wire case surrounding the light bulbs bring the creatures to life with a 3D look. A food display is perfectly organized down the long countertop.
Thanks to its classic black-and-white color palette, this kids' bathroom will easily grow with the little ones. A metallic mirror reflects the natural light, making the small space seem larger, while a floating sink with two faucets gives the kiddos plenty of room to brush their teeth before bedtime.
What girl wouldn't love a luxury dressing room to call her own? Well, this girl now has one. To achieve this lovely little getaway, she had a second story patio enclosed and the unused space transformed into a luxe dressing room. There were only two walls in the space, so that's where the floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobes were installed for all of the homeowner's clothes. These wardrobes are all lit and lined with wallpaper, so that each and every garment and accessory is showcased and easily accessible. White Roman shades were added to this space to provide chic privacy for the homeowner.
Black-and-white seashell-patterned wallpaper draws the eye in this coastal living room. A blue sectional curves through the room and is decorated with pink and navy throw pillows for added color. An area rug adds texture over the natural look of the hardwood floor. A single natural wood beam creates a simple mantel, complements the floor finish and breaks up the white space of the wall.
The fastest way to add a little "prep" to your style is with a bit of trim. Designer Tobi Fairley adds white piping to the dining chairs and black trim to the lattice-print drapes for some classic preppy details. A modern rug, table and chandelier keep the room feeling updated.
Hot pink walls spread a diamond pattern throughout this colorful sitting room. A tufted purple bench with a circular design sits in the center of the room atop a leopard print rug. A green sofa rests against one wall, while a turquoise sofa fills a window nook on the opposite end of the room. A pair of black and white chairs completes the eclectic seating area.
Enjoy all the great attributes of viburnum in a neat little package. Lil’ Ditty grows 1 to 2 feet tall and wide, making it a great choice for perennial borders, containers or edging water gardens. Fragrant white late spring blooms—a big hit with pollinators—fade to form berries, which shift color as they ripen from green to pink to red to blue to black. Hardy in Zones 3-8. Botanical name: Viburnum cassinoides
We all know that black and white are the perfect duo, so why not add a little sunshine to that dichromatic color scheme? A collection of vibrant yellow vases brightens this chic and sophisticated space and enhances the Carrera marble fireplace. Hints of yellow from the artwork are heightened, and the room instantly feels a wave of energy.
This California home's design doesn’t stop on the first floor. Upstairs, Brenna, one of Tamara Beltran's three daughters, has a room every bit as cool as the rest of this interior. High energy patterns keep this room’s classic black and white color palette looking lively, alongside a few bright pops of color. Just like downstairs, this bedroom is full of cool little details, like the stenciled headboard and monogram wall art.
Pops of coral stand out in this living room’s black and white color palette. Designer Mariah O’Brien loves to begin with a white base, adding bold hues in the form of accent walls and accessories for a striking palette. Mariah’s secret? “The whites I like to use showcase the colors, upholstery, fabrics and art in the room without competing with the wall color. If and when our clients need a little change, it is much easier to change out the window treatments, pillows and accessories than to have to repaint an entire room,” says O’Brien.
The girls’ room is an excellent example of how to design a kid’s room with a sense of style. When designing a room for kids there’s a lot to be said for keeping the overall aesthetic aligned with the rest of the home. Instead of decorating with bright pastel colors and more traditional "kid's colors" that don’t reflect their personal style, Julio and Kenza have blended their grownup black and white color palette with fun elements like the heart polka dots on the sheets, typographic art and pops of orange in this kid-friendly space.
This elegant black and white bathroom satisfies the design wishes of kids and adults alike. The modern design of the space is sleek and elegant, while the details in the space, such as the silver fixtures and exposed piping, add a little edge to the room. The vintage features in the space soften the edges and make a cool addition to this kids' bathroom.
“When we were furnishing the home, we jazzed it up a little bit,” explains HGTV Dream Home 2015 interior designer Linda Woodrum. “We have a traditional living room with an edge, and we kept it very monochromatic with grays, blacks and whites. We pulled in some of that blue because we know we are in a resort area, and we wanted to celebrate that kind of sense.”
Before the renovation, this kitchen had little room for the young family who owned it to move around and cook together, so designers overhauled the floor plan, creating the space for a kitchen island. Designers kept the color palette light and neutral with white cabinets and trim, honed black pearl granite and white Caesarstone, making the space feel more open. They then added color with bright kitchen ware and bold counter stools that are vinyl and can easily be wiped clean.
The previous kitchen in the couple's home was small and closed in with very little countertop or cabinet space. Brio Interior Design's renovations, though, have replaced the outdated stock cabinets and formica countertops with modern, custom cabinets and an elegant butcher block countertop. One set of lower cabinets extends across the exterior wall, while another set was created across the open kitchen to provide plenty of storage and counter space. The lower cabinets are painted black in warm contrast with the white subway tile walls and white upper cabinets. Details such as the beautiful pink flower and brass fixtures bring an exotic feel to the space.
