White cabinets and black kitchen appliances pop against the gray paint and gray subway tile on the walls of this Traditional kitchen. Bowls of fresh fruit on the marble countertop add a splash of color against the grays and the neutral tile floor.
For a fun and healthier spin on the traditional banana split, slice a banana in half lengthwise, spoon plain or vanilla Greek yogurt over the center, top with fresh berries and granola and drizzle with honey.
The master bedroom is a serene affair. The perfect place to rest and relax after a long day. It combines the couple’s love of banana-leaf prints with soft grays and warm wood tones. In this restful retreat, a few plants become the perfect accessories.
The guest bedroom was designed with the Caribbean in mind. A banana leaf blanket and shams add a tropical feel to the space. Floating shelves were installed with books focused on local travel and restaurants for guests. Above the bed, a series of images from artist, Clare Elsaesser, adds more colorful notes to the room.
A silvery palette and reflective surfaces make this dreamy master bedroom feel as if it's resting on a cloud. Custom draperies draw to block light, and two upholstered ottomans serve as versatile, functional seating at the foot of the modern bed. The hand-loomed, banana silk rug features a soft shimmer, adding to the room's ethereal feel.
Away from the beds the room explodes into a variety of colors and lively patterns. A modern banana-leaf wallpaper creates a feature wall, providing a background to the bright pops of red, yellow and green furnishings and accessories. Collected pieces top off the dresser, including two works representing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Why we love it: Fragrance abounds in this native shrub. The 1- to 2-inch-wide flowers boast a deep maroon hue and release a fruity scent that’s been described as strawberry, banana, melon, pineapple or bubble gum. Blossoms fade to form scented capsules. Leaves turn gold in fall. This is a low maintenance shrub that belongs near a door so you won’t miss the fragrance.
The classic 1920s style bungalow still has many iconic architectural features even if some, like the fireplace, are no longer operational. The single shelf above is perfect for displaying a few of Nikia’s favorite works of art including an affirmation in simple words and a painting that bears a striking resemblance to a member of the family. Nearby, a banana leaf palm throws in a spot of natural color and a subtle homage to classic L.A. style.
The master bedroom has the feel of the Caribbean. The neutral color palette is accented by greens. The color comes in through plants, art and the textiles in the room. The room’s most unique touch has to be the bedside table. The art installation was made to resemble a stack of fruit boxes for the fictitious company “Pablo Sue-Pat’s Banana’s.” The installation beautifully brings the room’s color palette together.
