Wood accents—the vanity, the mirror's trim, the slats supporting the tub—warm up this generously sized bathroom with a view. The gorgeous blue water seen outside the windows is the colorful main attraction of the neutral space.
Blue Asian-inspired wallpaper makes a stunning backdrop to this master bathroom. A large soaker bathtub is the perfect spot to relax. Soft gray tile ground the space, while a strip of decorative tiles add a graphic touch to the room.
Designer Jennifer Gilmer wanted a large freestanding tub and a shower in her master bath, but lacked the room to put them side by side. A trip to Japan inspired her to combine the two in an open space — this arrangement is common there. The light-flooded modern bathroom, with black mosaic tiled floor and insets and tan subway tile walls, features a deep sink, ceiling-mounted rain shower and oval-shaped pedestal bathtub.
A touch of pastel blue peaks around the large vanity mirror over woodgrain cabinets and white countertop. A tiled shower cubby repeats the colors used in the thin backsplash. Glass shower walls keep the space bright, and flowers floating in the tub water is a perfect soft finishing touch.
In the bathroom, designers used the modern, Asian motif from the rest of the home to bring in unique features that give this space a spa like feel. The window above the large soaking tub gives the space plenty of natural light, while the bamboo wood panel helps to create some privacy between the spa space and the outdoors. To create privacy inside the home, panels of frosted glass create a space in the bathroom that is separate from the rest of the room's spaces; however, by using panels of glass rather than glass sheets, designers were able to keep the bath area from feeling cut off and separate-keeping the room's design flow continuous-while still giving this space an amount of privacy.
The deck was extended to give more space for entertaining and a hot tub. Boulders poke up through the floor in a nod to the Asian gardens loved by the homeowner. On the far side, the hot tub feels cohesive wrapped in the deck's gray planks.
To give this bathroom all the blissed-out feeling of a spa, the designer included a freestanding soaking tub and a leather chaise. The accent wall behind the tub is teak, durable around moisture.
The other walls are finished in a concrete render.
