As seen on HGTV's Buying and Selling, Cameron and Krystal wanted a grown up space to entertain their friends and family, so Drew and Jonathan brought in some modern furniture and updated the details of their outdated home. The neutral colors of the walls sofa, and chairs are complimented by natural elements around the doors and windows. The brothers then added color to the space by choosing warm blue and copper accent pillows and chrome candlesticks, chandelier and table lamps to help reflect light into the room.
Designer Linda McDougald turned a culinary student's dream kitchen into a reality with a brilliant kitchen design that has all the trimmings to make cooking, cleaning and entertaining a breeze. A vaulted ceiling allows for a tall cabinet and range hood in this impressive transitional kitchen. Gray brick adds an accent strip to the wall under the range hood. The large island features two sinks on the gray countertop. A neutral bar extends from the island providing eating room. Industrial pipe stools with wood tops add a distinctive detail.
“Choosing furniture that’s proportionate to the room and to each of the other furniture pieces in the space is very important for a successful design,” say the designers of Laura U, Inc. “This is a very large room, the bed is custom and over-scale, and the bedside chests are perfect size for our colossal bed and generous room. A custom bed also means custom bedding. Ours is thoughtfully detailed with our Moroccan motif in a neutral tone as the embroidery with a complimentary arctic blue on the accent pillows.”
Depending on the layout of your patio, an outdoor shower could be part of your design and create an interesting focal point. If you have outdoor plumbing, you are on your way to making this possible, says Leigh Spicher, Ashton Woods’ national director of design studios. Frame a small enclosure and treat with a teak accent. This one by Ashton Woods designers extends above the wall, but yours would be less detailed and require fewer materials. You also can use the shower to water your container plants.
Design is all about the details. The backsplash tile flows into the kitchen window to give it a clean, seamless stopping point. The small granite sill on the window is perfect for a small plant and easy to clean! A simple woven wood shade from The Shade Store adds a finishing touch to the window. The dark granite, Marron Cohiba, in a brushed finish, shows off its natural, organic texture. A color palette in a taupe scheme with dark accents and beautiful wire brushed hickory floor give the strong, rustic vibe that reflects this homeowner’s personality and taste.
Part of the charm of Oliver Hospitality's brand of urban renewal is their attention to detail and maintaining historic elements in their revamped properties. The iconic radio tower that for so long capped the Clermont Hotel rests in peace and offers a cheeky accent to the cool bar scene below. The Hotel Clermont's rooftop bar is now one of Atlanta's coolest late night bar scenes. It's also one of Oliver Hospitality Philip Welker's favorite features of the hotel, "We think the whole thing came together so well. It feels like an elevated urban garden oasis where you want to lounge all evening."
A series of pilastered arches frame the view from the dining room to the glass doors of the library. Intermediate “vestibules” help to formalize the entry to the dining room and living room from the entry without the use of doors.
An interior challenge was to transition from formal to informal spaces. Daniel Contelmo Architects accomplished this by minimizing the detailing of moldings in the informal spaces, and adding beading in the ceiling and oak accents in beams and mantels.
The living room epitomizes the style of this home. Strong architectural details are complemented, not covered, by tastefully understated gallery walls. And once again the white walls and wood floors are the perfect backdrop for the home’s boldest color statement—an inviting velvet sofa in a soft, pink blush. Though small accessories, sculptures and pieces of art accent the room throughout, the biggest pattern statement in the room is made by the wood floor, the repeating diamond geometric blends seamlessly into the room while creating visual interest from the floor up.
The details in this kitchen are what truly brings the space together. The homeowners wanted a unique renovation, but were concerned with maintaining the home's integrity, so designers combined a few unique, more modern touches with traditional features to create this stunning kitchen. Wallpaper is used throughout the space to add color and warmth while maintaining the traditional feel of the home. The oriental rug between the kitchen island and the sink is another classic touch for the home. Even the gold accented light fixtures bring in the charm that the homeowners love about their home. The homeowners were opposed to white cabinets, so designers installed a countertop that had green hues, which inspired the green countertops in the space.
Pastel details contrast with the wood elements in this master bedroom remodel. The printed, yellow wallpaper creates an accent wall in this cottage-style bedroom, acting as a cheerful backdrop for the pink and gray aspects of the room. Crisp, neutral bedding along with the clean lines of the neutral headboard anchor the bedroom's largest furniture piece and mirrors the neutral fireplace. A splash of bold color is added to the decor with the use of pink throw pillows, a nightstand and printed ottoman. A wooden table and mantel act as a base for decorative pieces and soft, pastels colors in the chair and nightstand lamp elaborate on the room's pastel ambiance. A distinct, natural lighting fixture adds a rustic element to the room.
