“I had always admired [a friend’s grapevine tree] so I thought I'd make one—I really love its rustic quality,” says Jane Windham of Cottage at the Crossroads. “The painted pinecone garland around the front door has been up since last Christmas so I added some burlap leaves to make it look more like fall. The antique Amish wheelbarrow has been on the front porch a few years and I decorate around it for each season.”Jane says, “I usually start with a color scheme or a theme when decorating the porch. Then I start pulling out things that I already have in my stash to see what I can use. I will purchase something new only if it fits into the scheme or is seasonal such as mums or real pumpkins. Luckily, I have 2 sisters-in-law that live nearby and they let me borrow a few things, too!”Jane’s favorite part of the design?“I love the rich, riot of colors used on the porch, similar to what one would find in nature at this time of year.
