For dinosaur gardens, a colorful container adds an element of fun. There are many size options when it comes to dinosaurs, but I used very small dinosaurs tucked in among the plants and bits of glittery holiday decor. With children in mind, I thought it would be more fun for them to slowly discover the creatures in the landscape.
On season four of HGTV Design Star, contestant Antonio designs a bedroom for five-year-old Connor, who loves dinosaurs and art. The headboard and footboard are designed to look like stones, and fun dinosaur cutouts are added to the walls.
Designer Genevieve Gorder has a bone to pick with this room design. "My fear with this room is that the child will love it today but outgrow it tomorrow, and that's a waste," explains Candice. "Quality core pieces like the dressers are great starting points; they'll last forever and transition easily. I would have liked to see the theme established with more attention to the temporary accessories in this room rather than the more permanent construction elements."
The Cabazon Dinosaurs are an iconic roadside attraction in Palm Springs, Calif., so naturally designer Michelle Gage wanted to include them in the living room. Thus, she blew up a photo that the homeowner snapped while on vacation, framed it and hung it over the fireplace for visual interest.
These homeowners wanted to incorporate their love of whimsy into their home decor, so designers added glass domes containing colorful, plastic dinosaurs as the centerpiece for the dining table and the back of the dining bench. These dinosaurs are small, but their contribution to the overall feel of the design in immeasurable.
With deep green walls, crisp white bedding, playful artwork and kooky dinosaur skeleton models, this kid's bedroom is the perfect combination of whimsy and refinement. A metallic nightstand completes the tasteful design.
