Mina and Karen buy a property in one of the most coveted and popular neighborhoods in Indianapolis. The incredible price only means more challenges as they quickly uncover some buried surprises that put the build on hold. When construction can continue, this four-bedroom home with an open floor plan and a bonus living space on the second floor will turn out to be their sweetest home yet ... if they can get past the fire code violations. With a bohemian-meets-modern vibe, Mina and Karen hope to attract a certain cute young couple that they hope will call it home.
A Stately House on Sanders
Mina and Karen are taking on a sprawling, 2,800-square-foot home with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a bonus space upstairs. While the three-story home is structurally sound, it needs a lot of work to make it ready to sell, and Mina and Karen have a whopping $275,000 renovation budget. The home has beautiful woodwork, paneling and a majestic staircase, but tensions flare as the women have differing opinions on how to approach its design and style.
Old Doors, New Wall
Mina and Karen work on a duplex unit that's riddled with trash and interesting surprises, including a wall made entirely out of old doors. However, further problems arise when Cory discovers a foundation issue no one saw coming.
The Cottage Catastrophe
Mina and Karen return to the Old Southside neighborhood to renovate a crusty cottage that's been empty for years. When an unexpected disaster hits, the duo must rethink their entire plan and create a beautiful home that will turn a profit.
The Boho Bungalow
Mina and Karen begin work on a home in a new neighborhood called Garfield Park. With a tight budget and narrow profit margin, the team must harness their creative juices to turn the tiny property into a boho-themed bungalow worthy of an aspiring artist.
The Greenwich Village Townhome
Mina and Karen return to Old Southside to renovate the right side of their duplex townhome using a Greenwich Village design. Karen shares a major announcement about her position in the company, and the ramifications of that change quickly come to light.
Flooded Two-Story Restored
Mina and Karen are welcomed into their new duplex with piles of clothes, two toilets and two feet of water in the basement. Although the women have disagreements on room placement and paint colors, they hope all the hard work in this decrepit home pays off with a buyer.
Little White House on a Hill
Mina and Karen buy a little white house on a hill with potential to be a real charmer in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood. The home has a great floor plan but it has serious foundation issues and is in desperate need of a facelift. During construction, a former owner of the house stops by to see how much her old home has changed. Will she be impressed with Mina and Karen's transformation?
Starting From Scratch in the Southside Neighborhood
Mina and Karen take a stab at redeveloping a house that was hit by a car in the Old Southside neighborhood. After some fun demo with a giant water hose, they design their new house with a simple, urban and classic aesthetic. They also create textile artwork to bring into the house, as well as floating side tables made from antique corbels.
Townhome of Trouble
Mina and Karen take on the renovation of a century-old duplex in Indianapolis, Indiana. They decide to keep both units separate and begin the renovation with one townhome. The interior is in rough shape, and demolition exposes several troublesome issues, but the team can still see potential for a unique "Boho Industrial" vibe. With a budget of $150,000, they create an open-concept living space on the main floor and add a second full bathroom for maximum functionality. A bright white kitchen, sleek tile and exposed duct work completes the team's modern vision.
A Condo Brings Family Together
Mina and Karen are fixing up a condo building and Mina wants to remodel one of the units for her sister and her two girls, who want to be closer to downtown. They work to transform the total gut job into a dream home filled with personalized touches, including a special mural made by Mina, Karen and the kids.
Cottage Becomes Artistic Oasis
A couple that runs a nonprofit benefiting the Garfield Park neighborhood enlists Mina and Karen to make over one of their dilapidated properties. The team must work together to make sure the home comes in under budget and helps an artist in need.
Updated Victorian in Old Southside
Mina and Karen are back in Old Southside where they've purchased a hoarder house filled with garbage and hiding fire damage. As demo gets underway, they uncover a slew of other issues as they turn this trash-filled home into an updated Victorian beauty.
Making Space in the Suburbs for a Large Family
Mina Starsiak and Karen E. Laine get a call for help from Julie and Larry, who want a major renovation of their house in the suburbs of Indianapolis. With a total of 23 kids and grandkids, the couple's space is far too small for family gatherings. Although one of the problems is a tiny kitchen, the home's main issues are a cramped dining room and lack of seating. Mina and Karen pull out all the stops to provide an incredible transformation for a family with a traditional style.
Eyesore Overhaul
Mina and Karen are back in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood with a brand-new project. The home is in a fantastic location, is close to everything and has a ton of square footage. Despite its good qualities, however, the home is dirty, ugly and is going to be a heaping handful of a job. This eyesore has three colors of brown paint coating the outside and is a confusing labyrinth on the inside. A house this size will ultimately require more construction workers, more hammers and ultimately more danger. Will they be able to give this home a new floor plan that's perfect for single-family living?
The Half Million Dollar House
Mina and Karen have purchased their most expensive house to date, in the most desirable neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis. The size of the house and its great location could mean a selling price close to $500,000 if they play their cards right. After the massive demolition is complete, Mina and Karen get to work designing the new layout, which includes an extra loft space on the second floor and vaulted ceilings in the kitchen. For the design aesthetic, they go with an elegant, bohemian vibe by adding splashes of color to the interior and exterior.
Poltergeist Property
Mina and Karen take on a massive house in the Old Southside neighborhood that has undergone some unsuccessful renovations throughout the years. They are determined to rework the entire floor plan, but their renovations are halted when they hear unexplained noises in the attic, discover a collapsing floor and uncover live termites. In order to get a payoff as big as the house, they'll have to work through a hair-raising renovation to bring this house back to life.
Big Money in Fountain Square
Mina and Karen take on a massive, partially-constructed house that was abandoned by investors. It's a big investment, and tensions rise when it comes to figuring out the kitchen cabinets' design. Mina decides to take a risk with her own money, which could be the move that sells the house or leaves them over budget.
Tiny House, Huge Transformation
After purchasing a very small house near downtown Indianapolis for only $25,000, Mina Starsiak and Karen E. Laine have their work cut out for them as they continue their mission of renovating the city one house at a time. Built in 1880 and totaling only 512 square feet, the tiny house is sure to come with big problems. After the demo team tears it down to the studs, Mina and Karen get to work building it back up again, but bigger and better. Because the house is located in their own neighborhood of Fountain Square, the mother-daughter team wants to ensure it's a solid buy for its next owners, but they need to keep their renovation costs low enough to price the house to attract new buyers.
An Office Becomes a Home
Mina and Karen purchase a tricky home in a transitional Indianapolis neighborhood. The location is a sizable former office space with no discernable bedrooms so the girls are excited to utilize the blank canvas. The girls quickly fall in love with the project and start bringing out the space's charm with outdoor corbels, a beautiful fireplace, an antique structural column and real wooden floors. While their finished product is beautiful, they may soon realize they've gone too far in that neighborhood -- and maybe too far over their budget.
Decaying Duplex Gets a Transformation
Mina and Karen snag a four-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex for only $4,000. But with one of the worst foundations they've ever seen combined with unsafe floor joists on the second floor, Mina expects to spend upwards of $200,000 on the renovation. When Tad demos the chimney and puts a hole in the roof, the women grow more concerned about their budget. They hope that their attention to detail in the beautifully finished single-family home will pay off.
A Backyard Barn for Karen
Karen and Mina are tackling a special project, Karen's new barn-shaped guesthouse that she has been dreaming of for years. But before construction begins, the women get some devastating permit news from the city, forcing them to rethink the size of the structure. On the inside, Karen has tons of ideas about how to add her own special touches, and with the budget in her hands for a change, she's determined to make it the guesthouse of her dreams.
First House on the Block
Mina and Karen renovate the first of several houses they purchased on Talbott Street in Indianapolis. The three-bedroom, one-bath home has a few architectural challenges starting with the bathroom's placement far from the bedrooms and a foundation that sags causing the kitchen floor to slope. The designers add a master suite using attic space, resolve the foundation problems and create an open-concept kitchen that gives the home a modern feel.
Nothin's Easy on East Street
After going underwater on previous East Street investments, Mina and Karen return to the area and hope their third flip is a charm. They plan to give a home more bathrooms and an open floor plan, but when Cory discovers a budget-busting water line issue, the ladies must get creative with their renovation.
Chelsea Vibes in Old Southside
Mina and Karen buy a duplex of townhouses in Old Southside and want to give the left side a Chelsea flat theme full of eclectic colors like the New York City neighborhood. However, potential issues inside and out cause more challenges than expected.
Beautifying a Boring Boxy Home
Mina has second thoughts that a charmless, boxy house bought from the city for $4,000 might have been a bad idea. But Karen sees the potential and convinces Mina that they'll be able to transform this 'giant cube' into an adorable single family home. Even though it's undesirable at first glance, Mina and Karen strip it down and turn this boring, rectangular house into a beautiful work of art, truly adding value to the neighborhood.
