A special resting place was created in a second floor hallway that leads to an outdoor balcony overlooking this Houston estate. Oversized chairs, a wood pedestal center table, brass side tables and abstract artwork complement the antique wool area rug and custom draperies in a pink Ikat print.
Guests are welcomed to the seating area of this Victorian veranda. Steps are flanked by decorative panels. A soft green color palette highlights the architectural details of this elegant outdoor space.
Playful details abound - undulant baluster collars interject a sense of movement and rhythm to the stairs. Victorian, square section columns supporting the lantern transform to octagons with a wink to the Roman Doric Order.
All of the trim, brackets, balusters and columns were custom designed and then fabricated by millwork craftsman.
This completely custom guest cottage was built in only eight months time.
Above a black felt pool table in this game room hangs two bronze lampshade chandeliers. Large windows in the room are partially covered by sage green drapes and screens. A round table with chairs and a bar area provides seating.
Victorian Kitchen Uses Fans to help Cool the Space
A cool feature of this Victorian kitchen is the use of fans in the space. To help keep the kitchen a shade cooler and to help tie the traditional Victorian style of the rest of the house into the kitchen, designers installed fans throughout the space.
An antique French wallpaper design covers the walls in this master bedroom. The bed is accented with a hand-smocked half canopy of sheer Swiss Batiste and the headboard and foot board are covered in traditional blue upholstery.
