The poolhouse offers luxuriously comfy features, including a high-end kitchen with a martini sink. Storm shutter doors tucked inside the arches drop down with a push of a button. The pool house was built only 2.5’ from the waters edge creating an unusual situation with a venial pool. To make sure the pool wall was properly supported, a newly constructed block wall supports that edge. The three main arches facing the pool hide screens and shutters to block the sun or wind.
A contemporary California pool terrace features a custom fire pit, sofas and armchairs. The space is shaded by arbors topped with panels of woven willow. The home is on a 17-acre site in the Sonoma Valley. The project by Roche and Roche Landscape Architecture was an 2017 ASLA award winner.
Four cushioned lounge chairs line the far edge of the pool, with two umbrellas overhead to add a touch of shade. Meanwhile, hydrangea bushes and other eye-catching plants form a natural backdrop that smells just as wonderful as it looks.
This elevated patio is grounded by a strong horizontal wall with a see-through fireplace on the east end. This element helps to highlight the large Palladian inspired window. A water element on the south side relates to the view of the river beyond at the lower level of the property.
Spectacular waterfront views can be enjoyed from all angles of the deck. From this vantage point, the infinity edge of the pool almost juts into Kalihiwai Bay. For the more adventurous, a footpath meanders from the home down the bluff to the lower tier of the property where a stream and waterfall await.
A backyard featuring a fun pool for the kids, but with an adult feel..The solution was to craft a vessel that would sit within the multiple terraced gardens, that was created with dry stacked stone. The first challenge was getting into the backyard with minimal disruption, this would require importing soil to fill in areas creating ramps over walls and developed areas.
The Mediterranean home exterior sets the tone for this paradise backyard, complete with a pool and spa. Palm trees and other tropical plants surround the space, contrasting the bright blue pool water for a stunning view of vivid colors.

At the center of this luxurious private estate garden is a relaxing swimming pool, which features a sun shelf and an attached spa surrounded by bullnosed limestone coping and dimensional limestone paving. The stone pool terrace is lined with boxwood hedges to balance the soft textures of the trees and flowering shrubs. A custom timber beam pergola is anchored by stone piers and a low stone wall that defines the terrace space.
Designed by Wagner Hodgson Landscape Architecture, a wood-burning fireplace was cast in place of concrete with a board-form finish. Its covered position protects it from the summer winds in its Vermont setting.
