Circular Pendant Chandeliers, Black Bar Chairs and Midcentury Modern Cabinetry in Sleek Kitchen Design
The woodgrain kitchen island features an ashy-toned finish which blends the hardwood floor color into the cream and white tones used through the room. Black bar chairs line the overhanging countertop of the island for a stylish eat in set up under a pair of circle, industrial influence chandeliers. Sleek cabinetry with long stainless steel handles showcases the midcentury modern style influence.
Midcentury Modern Open-Plan Living and Dining Space
Perfect for casual weekend living, this Hamptons beach-house dining/family room has a close connection to the kitchen, as well as to outdoor living areas. Glass doors on the ground level slide all the way into the walls, opening the family/dining room and living room to an expansive deck area. The rooms can be entirely open or protected from mosquitoes with a screen system, allowing for summer breezes, ample entertaining areas and restoring connections to nature. “A consistent — but not overwhelming — thread of blue follows throughout these ground level spaces: blue kitchen cabinets, blue custom rug and touches of blue walls,” note the architects.
Midcentury Dining Room With Floor-to-Ceiling Bookcase
A floor-to-ceiling bookcase not only accentuates the room's height, but also provides essential storage space for novels and accessories. At the same time, a midcentury pendant light keeps the room airy and bright.

Gray-Green Home Office Sitting Area With Gallery Wall
To create a multifunctional seating area in an attorney’s home office, designer Tim Barber chose a flexible mix of vintage and reproduction pieces. “For a room versatile enough to prepare a brief, host tea with friends, steer fundraising projects, help with homework and occasionally accommodate overflow guests, we designed a plan with pieces light enough to be moved easily — and durable enough to survive frequent rearranging (nothing too precious here),” he says. “The sofa is a Lino Comfort sleeper from Design Within Reach, which makes the office a convertible guest bedroom in a pinch. We love the deep seat cushions and low flat arms: perfect for a power nap. The chairs are vintage 1957 Knoll Saarinen armchairs, reupholstered in Kravet fabric. The Saarinen cocktail table is a reproduction from Room & Board.”

That's no optical illusion: This kitchen really is shaped like a wedge. Rather than fighting the odd shape, the design embraces it with an acutely angled island and banquette. The space is decorated with a funky '50s vibe that matches its quirky shape.
The homeowners loved their home's Midcentury Modern design, but they wanted it to have an updated feel, so they tasked designers with finding a way to preserve the home's charm while adding modern amenities, so designers expertly blended the original mahogany paneling with new, sleek cabinets and splashes of marble to create a fun, elegant space.
Gray and White Marble Backsplash in Updated Midcentury Modern Kitchen Design
The gray and white marble backsplash helps to ease the transition between the dark, rich, mahogany paneling and the stark, white-gloss cabinets. The addition of the marble also provides additional warmth and texture to the design.
White quartz countertops are a bright finishing touch for this midcentury modern kitchen, enhancing the room’s open and airy feel. The designer maintained the space’s original curved layout and incorporated a raised bar between the kitchen and family room to define the two areas.
