Elegant Sitting Room in Traditional Master Bedroom
Making the most of the large master bedroom space, the area next to the windows is transformed into a comfortable sitting area. It's the perfect spot for watching TV and reading a book. Creamy curtains are hung high on the wall to match the scale of the room, while an area rug defines the space.

Built in bookshelves create a nook-like feel and frame this cozy sitting space. Two recessed lighting bulbs shine down over the neutral tufted chair. Natural wood hardwood flooring and green walls capture the calm vibe of the design.
With its towering ceiling and tall stucco fireplace, this formal living room makes a grand statement. Sets of French sitting chairs with wooden arms and English roll arm loveseats create a cozy space for conversation.

This comfortable coral chair creates a welcoming sitting space next to the fireplace. A floral throw pillow and light gray blanket add the finishing cozy touches to the tufted chair. A patterned fireplace surround is topped with a neutral mantel for a lovey, traditional design.
The walls in this Venetian-style bedroom are painted misty blue "Borrowed Light" from Farrow & Ball, which complements the chartreuse Scalamandre silk curtains. The original oak floors are left uncovered.
"Light the tree from the top down working in sections rather than round and round the tree," says Barnhardt. "Work the lights in toward the trunk of the tree, and then back out to the tip of the next branch, securing it by slipping the tip between the two wires of your strand of lights. When it's time to take the lights away, just pull gently on the cord for each section. To get the lighting evenly placed on your tree, step back, squint your eyes to make things blurry and look for dark spots. Rearrange or add lights as needed. These techniques work well on our towering trees at Biltmore and on my little seven-foot fresh tree at home." Photo courtesy of Biltmore Estates.

Traditional Formal Sitting Room With Coffered Ceiling, Sage Green Upholstered Chairs and French Doors
This formal sitting room design features oak french doors and a wood coffered ceiling. A pair of green upholstered chairs and a gray armchair face a large coffee table. Neutral throw pillows and a simple table decor complete the timeless, traditional style of the room.
Since the master bedroom features sweeping ceilings, the elegant curtains are hung high on the wall to match the scale of the room. Comfortable chairs are arranged for TV watching and with lots of natural light and floor lamps for reading.
In this traditional lounge designed with Napoleon in mind, chalk paint becomes a thoughtful medium for capturing Old World details on a modern canvas. A gold velvet sofa and ruby-colored slipper chair pair well with a swirling mirror, making the space seem large and luxurious.
Circular elements, such as the colorful rug and skirted ottoman, offset the hard edges of the mantel and second-story windows in this sitting room. Patterned cushions spruce up brown chairs, while an ornate chandelier hangs overhead.
