Doorway Draws Playful Contrast to Elegant Dining Room
The dining room was awkward and small, so designers covered the walls with a fun, gold malachite wallpaper and addd a linear chandelier to distract from the odd lines on the space and draw the eye to the center of the space. To bring in a bigger sense of richness, designers brought in bold purples to accent the gold wallpaper. At the entrance to the space, a surfboard and photography add a playful contrast to the formal, elegant dining space.
Striped walls lend drama to this dining room featuring a glass-topped table and mirrored sideboard. A large framed mirror on the wall reflects long white drapes on the opposite wall and an ornate chandelier completes the look.

Mulberry purple walls provide a rich, vibrant backdrop for this stylish home office. A clean-lined desk and chair with slim silhouettes pair with grayscale artwork, allowing the wall color to take center stage.
Vibrant Purple and Green Living Room With Natural Light
This living room ties together bold colors, like lime green and purple, with traditional elements to create an eclectic vibe. A red brick fireplace lends a floor-to-ceiling focal point, while large windows allow natural light to illuminate the space.
Wine Tones Adorn Walls, Details in This Lounge Area
Inspired by Marsala, Pantone’s color of the year, designer Jeff Schlarb chose a rich wine color as a theme for the Pent Room at the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2015 and worked it in to every detail of the space, from the walls, to the nailhead trim on the tailored sofa. This sitting area allows for private conversation removed from the activity of the pool table and bar.
The round table and patterned, upholstered chairs seat up to eight people. To add storage, designers brought in a buffet that is covered in faux-shagreen to add some nice texture against the wallpaper.
Against an eggplant purple wall, a white shelving unit provides sharp contrast, coordinating with a small white table flanked by two velvet chairs. This elegant space provides stylish storage for books and accessories.
Purple reigns in this contemporary dining room. Purple walls and a purple and magenta rug contrast with the neutral chairs and black dining table. A pendant light with a drum shade and an ivory sideboard complete the look.
Furnishing a living room with a nearby staircase can present a traffic flow obstacle. Similar to hallways, it's best to think of staircases as high-traffic areas requiring at least 36 inches of clearance. Rather than outfitting the walls around a staircase with heavy furniture, try using them to showcase art or accent pieces, such as sculptural chairs or occasional seating in the form of ottomans or lightweight benches.
This eclectic living room features large windows that allow natural light to illuminate the space. Lime green curtains and armchairs add bright accents, while a purple area rug and plush ottomans add fun contrast. A red brick fireplace adds a traditional touch.
An open entertainment center in this contemporary living room houses the TV and electronic components, as well as the homeowners' favorite books and accessories. Patterned maroon wallpaper livens up the wall behind the entertainment center, adding interest to the space.
