Mid-Century Modern Buffet in Contemporary Living Room
Natural and stained black wood create a striking contrast on this mid-century modern buffet. A large round mirror helps to visually expand the minimalist living room, while a mix of contemporary and organic accessories decorate the space.
Instead of buying all-new furniture to create a calm coastal environment in her living room, designer Lori Rourk transformed her existing furniture. "All of this furniture in its existing state was very dark and gloomy. I loved the lines of all of these pieces, so instead of buying new, I would recreate my vision to be light and airy," Rourk says.
Rustic White Living Room with Neutral Exposed Beams
Focal points in the renovated space become the double-sided fireplace with stucco surround and exposed wood beams and arched doorways. "You've got the nice wide openings," says Joanna, "but you also have that quaint, cozy feel."
Contemporary Neutral Living Room with Brown Hardwood Floors
The built-in shelves were removed to make room for new windows, bringing more natural light into the space. The fireplace gets a facelift with marble hearth and surround, contrasting smartly with the new hardwood floors in dark stain.
Open, Contemporary Living Room is Family-Friendly, Welcoming
Sleek, contemporary furniture is centered around a streamlined entertainment center and TV. The wood accent wall adds warmth to the space, while elegant plants sit on glass pedestals, adding to the openness of the space.
Oversized mirrors set against the wood accent wall not only help bounce light around the room, but they also reflect back the beautiful living room design. This intimate seating area, perfect for conversation, combines contemporary chairs with a mirrored coffee table.
White Contemporary Living/Dining Room with French Doors
The floor plan was modified somewhat, redefining the kitchen and creating a less formal dining area and new breakfast nook. This side of the living room now opens onto the dining area through a cased opening with side lights.
Contemporary White Living Room with Exposed Ceiling Beams
Fixer Upper host Joanna Gaines ultimately opted to keep the ceiling beams which, with the new bright white interior, tie in nicely with the newly added trim. The fresh motif and added light make the room feel much larger.
The homeowners wanted a place where they could entertain and that was both comfortable and practical. The natural raw wood coffee table centers the living room, adding unique character to the space. Sleek furniture and throw pillows in varying patterns bring vibrancy to the room.
