In a smaller room, choosing a few pieces of furniture and one or two items for visual interest can help keep the space from feeling cluttered. Here, the simple but stylish banquette, table and chairs let the gorgeous ocean view take center stage.
Boule chandeliers glimmer against the Phillip Jeffries wallpaper in this sleek New York dining room. Curves dominate the space, found in the lighting, the round mirror and the soft curve of the chair backs. The sheen of the fabrics and wallcovering reflect the light that enters the space through massive steel-encased windows.
Reclaimed wood wraps the breakfast bar in this contemporary beachside condominium, bringing the space a rustic warmth that fits its setting. Meanwhile, Mid-Century Modern furniture rests alongside cool stone and concrete surfaces, creating an interesting mix that gains richness through its layers.

Modern Gray Dining Room with Black Dining Table with Red Dining Chairs and Benches
This crisp, distinct and striking dining area is at once simple and complex. Simple in that very few items appear in the space. Complex in that the design elements are chosen to stand out while also coming together as a lovely whole. The red dining chars add a punch of color in the otherwise black-and-white themed space.
As rough-hewn and industrial as some loft spaces can be, there’s still ample opportunity to introduce spaces rich in refined style, as designer Hannah Crowell did in this eclectic dining room. “This was a new build that I wanted to give depth and character, so I chose a charcoal grey that pulled a slight bit of purple. I wanted to mix modern pieces (the Wegner chairs) with a farm table and Bryan Nash Gill prints. The Patterson Flynn and Martin rug was custom and took us 6 months to make but it pulled everything together perfectly.”
The cabinets were custom crafted by Benchcraft Custom Woodwork, out of Rift Sawn Oak finished in a warm grey stain. The accented island in grey creates the perfect backdrop for The Artistic Tile Estrella Silver Blend, adding sparkle and dimension. The Perimeter Stone is Pietra de Cardosa and the island stone is Blanco Karibib edged in a reverse bevel. The bright red Currey Pendants add a touch of whimsy amidst the neutral sophistication while in contrast, The Dorrivracht faucet adds a bit of edginess.
Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines removed the wall between the homeowners' dining room and kitchen and installed a natural wood support beam in its place. The dining room is illuminated with a metal chandelier and staged with bright, comfortable chairs and a dining table set with blue plates and French Country accessories and greenery. The new French doors open to the backyard and offer additional natural light.
Amazing architectural details and great bones call to be enhanced with rich industrial finds mixed with eclectic, modern touches. A long, rustic dining table is surrounded by a mix of vintage chairs all painted black.
This dining room from designer Vanessa-DeLeon is flanked with column-framed arched doorways and accentuated with an eclectic mix of the formal and rustic to create a dramatic and unexpected look.
