Black cabinets, island and dining table bring dramatic flair to the bright white walls and marble floors in this open floor plan kitchen. "U"-Shaped Kitchen Provides Counter Space and Casual Seating to the Home
The "U"-shaped kitchen cabinets provide plenty of counter space while giving definition to the kitchen space, separating it from the rest of the first floor. The barstools give the space a casual dining option but are also in close proximity to the dining space, so they could also serve as an extension of the home's dining area.
All new white cabinets and black marble countertops bring a modern look to the kitchen, and two hanging globe light fixtures illuminate the breakfast bar. The new refrigerator is located where shelving once was and a new faucet with an apron sink was installed. The kitchen is surrounded by a beveled subway tile backsplash, and a wooden awning brings color to the kitchen and shades the window overlooking the side yard.
A black countertop, hood and double oven stand out in this radiant white traditional kitchen. Tons of cabinet space provides ample storage, and a subway tile backsplash that reaches the ceiling is a stylish addition that is easy to clean.
Rich black, enameled cabinetry with accents of Peruvian walnut are the dramatic cornerstone of the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 kitchen. The sophisticated look is completed with brushed and polished metal hardware, white stone counters and geometric glass tiles, while a custom quartz crystal-encrusted ceiling cove crowns the space.
Black and White Modern Home with Lots of Natural Light
The homeowners wanted an open concept home with plenty of natural light, so designers created a space that left each room open to the next, creating a clear line of sight through all of the home's common spaces. For natural light, they took advantage of the existing windows and skylight by using a black and white color palette that would reflect the light from the outside, giving the space a natural glow.
Creating sleek, functional kitchen was the goal of this design, so it was given a black and white color palette. To improve the space's functionality, the walls at either end of the kitchen add extra cabinets. A kitchen island adds counter space, while two sinks provide additional prep space.
“Using black for interiors can be scary as it’s usually associated with being dark or depressing,” says designer Jodie Rosen. Her advice: “Using hits of black as an accent is a great way to elevate a space and emphasize elements of the design. In this case, we used black on the trim around the range to make the area a focal point and then repeated the black in the oversized fixtures, stools, and the metal detailing on the island.”
The unique, two-tiered island provides casual seating for six in the kitchen of this sleek, modern home. One the first level, four barstools rest a counter-height, providing counter space on one side and seating on the other. On the lower level of the feature, an extension table adds two more chairs for the homeowners' and their guests.
