Designer Susan Brunstrum elevated the row of windows of this great room with white tufted cornices that were placed alongside floor-to ceiling draperies for a stylish but subtle design. The treatments seem to elongate the dimensions of the windows and create texture against the clear glass.
Layered with oodles of patterns, this chic black-and-white living area takes on tons of personality. Because the space uses the same basic color base, the resulting look is fun instead of overwhelming.
As seen on HGTV's Elbow Room, Chip Wade and his team successfully combined the Overdyke family's screened in porch with their family room to create this giant, contemporary living room. By adding an all glass wall, Chip has been able to retain the natural light of the outdoors while adding modern luxuries such as the plush furniture and gas log fireplace.
Stone Fireplace Heightens Great Room's Rustic Charm
Susan Brunstrum designed her client's second home in Park City, Utah employing a "Mountain Modern," theme, which contemporizes the natural look of rustic furnishings for today's lifestyle. For this great room, the designer added contemporary furniture to contrast with the more primitive resonance of the stone fireplace and dark woodwork. The color palette of the room is soft and subdued, which plays nicely against the room's more masculine elements.
The main floor of this large residence is open concept with the living room, kitchen and dining areas flowing easily into one another. A neutral colored rug is a simple, tasteful match for the white-and-wood furniture.
Mortis-and-tenon timber trusses, stabilized with stainless steel collar ties, visually lower the vaulted ceiling and transform an otherwise voluminous space into a cozy escape. As if aged and weathered by the elements, timbers, washed in a finish of water and gray paint, play up the room's invented farmhouse history.
Neutral Contemporary Great Room With Stacked Stone Fireplace Surround
Contemporary sofas and accent chairs give this great room sleek, upscale style while rustic ceiling beams and a blue Oriental area rug bring a homey warmth. The stacked limestone fireplace surround serves as a textured accent wall.
Designed to resemble an old stone structure, this great room stands as the home's hub with wings radiating out like spokes. The nature-inspired color palette flows effortlessly from the great room to the cooking and dining spaces.
Family Room With Barnwood Ceiling and Stone-Veneer Fireplace
In spite of its extremely tall trey ceiling, this family room feels warm and intimate, thanks to the warmth of the reclaimed barnwood used in the ceiling, beams, and moldings throughout. A massive stone-veneer fireplace with barnwood trim dominates one end of the room, and a wall of French doors provides not only light but also a splendid view of the surrounding landscape.
