In the United Kingdom, Pale Hall’s luxurious property transports you back to a royal 19th century countryside estate. Laurie Betz of Betz Design Studio said the feeling of quaintness and Old World style, but having modern-day touches, is her favorite element of the British estate turned hotel.
With some chicken wire and white chalk paint, craft blogger Amy Gregson transformed her builder-grade oak cabinets into her dream farmhouse kitchen. “It really lightened the space up and gave it a ton of personality,” she says. “It makes me smile every time I walk in there!” She paired the white upper cabinets with dark lower cabinets and bright-white countertops.
The architect created a tall, grand space for the living and kitchen space. To make the tall space feel cozy, all ceiling planes were covered with barn board and reclaimed beams. Those materials are repeated again on the island, wrapping around the base. To anchor the kitchen, large lanterns were brought in as a way to define the kitchen area and fill the volume.
Board and batten paneling gets a modern update with a coat of blue paint. Black rockers lined up on the front porch give off a classic Southern vibe. The whitewashed stone fireplace creates a cozy outdoor sitting area next to the grilling station.
Weathered wood cabinets and tin pendant lights combine for a farmhouse-inspired look in this kitchen. Contemporary barstools with vibrant orange leather upholstery energize the space with color and spunk.
