Two-toned walls set the tone for the gray and white color scheme of this living room. A graphic area rug and classic curtains bring a beautiful pattern pairing to compliment the solid neutral sofa and solid gray chairs. A layered glass coffee table keeps the center of the rug looking light while adding easily adjustable storage.
This cheerful nursery features floor-to-ceiling bookracks that allow covers to face out, making it easy for choosing favorite titles. The teal leather ottoman with a fur throw provides a cozy spot for relaxing, while the matching two-tone walls finish the look of the space.

"For Stacey, the carnation is a hard-working flower that has the possibility of being more than it appears on the surface. Her desk and chair seem both modern and traditional at once, showcasing the complexity of the flower she has chosen," said judge Vern Yip of HGTV's Design Star. This transitional room features traditional decor with a modern twist. The two-tone walls add color to the white furniture, wood flooring and dark wooden desk.
A bold, two-tone accent wall creates visual interest in this transitional home office design. The space features a glass-top, L-shaped desk with a minimalist approach to its color scheme, furnishings and accessories.
White square tile covers the lower half of this bathroom wall and then blends into the white paint. A mounted wood shelf and two-tone wicker basket create open towel and supply storage. A small plant pot matches the salmon colored wall art for a fun and simple pop of color to decorate the space.
Horizontal lines and a restful palette of grays and blues make for a peaceful urban retreat. In this modern master bedroom, a two-tone, custom floating shelf with drawers balances the mounted flat-screen television, perfect for viewing in bed. A wall of windows frames the sweeping city view.
An arts and crafts-style vanity is paired with intricate mirrors and shaded sconces to create a bathroom with bohemian appeal. The tile mimics the design of a two-tone hardwood flooring inlay used elsewhere in the home. The glass shower creates a spacious look. The marble tile of the flooring continues to the walls of the shower and bathtub.
This bold two-tone design is perfect for an energetic and fun kid's bedroom. Green and blue elements are used in every part of the room design from the wall paint to the bed linens. A lime green arm chair pops against the blue rug. Patterned pillows on the bed, chair and window seat bring a cozy plushness to the room.
The smooth neutral exterior design of this home is given a two-tone effect with an accent wood panel on the upper half of the house. Meeting the wood panel in the center of the wall is a small balcony. On the ground, a patio space creates a base for a cozy outdoor living room complete with fireplace. From the patio the space transitions to the open, bright backyard.
Floating gold statues create a beautifully zen decor over the charcoal gray wall coloring of this den. The two-tone gray paint adds a shadowy detail to the corner that allows the gold to pop. Subtler gold wall decor mounted over the dresser ties in the color scheme and compliments the simple, contemporary style of the space. Details add varying textures while red flowers pop as an accent against the neutral tones.
Two wall cabinets for dish and glass storage are balanced on either side of the casement windows. A combined pantry and display storage space is located on the back wall behind the island areas. The two-tone cabinetry is complemented by Blue Celeste marble tops and iridescent glass tile backsplash. A spectacular ocean view serves as the perfect backdrop for this breathtaking kitchen. The room is completed with a wood-paneled ceiling and a large kitchen island.
“This room has some really beautiful moments: the bold, striped fireplace commands attention; the combo of zebra, white leather, mirror and crystal set against a moody black backdrop is pure Hollywood glam; simple, two-tone damask patterns add a sense of tradition and comfort that tempers the sharp lines of the very modern wall and floor patterns,” says designer Candice Olson. “However, I think this is a case of both too much and too little. Too many patterns — stripes, checks, zebra and damask — all scream for attention. Undertaking such an ambitious painted floor with very little time prevented Design Star contestants NataLee and Tashica from really finishing this room, and it shows on so many levels, from the shredded bedding to the perplexing mirror/aquarium placement in the fireplace. I would have simply let the striped fireplace graphic be the star; painted the floor white to contrast the black and yellow walls and brought in a large zebra-patterned carpet for interest in the center of the room. This duo's predictable perimeter bed placement reminds me a bit of summer camp — a little more swanky, mind you. I would like to have seen a few beds dressed as sexy daybeds positioned in the center with cocktail tables beside and a spectacular chandelier above, very LA-luxe (in much less time).”
