KIDS BEDROOM, AFTER: This newly redesigned bedroom is a perfect oasis for a tween boy with a sports inspired theme, just enough color and its own bathroom. A custom painted locker and stylized art give the room unique character.
To make what was a juvenile, childish girl's room more appropriate for a growing tween, its walls were painted a deep shade of violet, album cover-inspired art was hung to create a focal point, vintage lighting was installed on the ceilings and the walls, and women's fashion fabrics were used in upholstered accents. Now the designer-caliber room is as appealing to the tween herself as it is to her young parents.
Looking for a high-energy, tone-on-tone look? Consider hot pink, salmon and white. When paired, hot pink and salmon seem very similar, almost seamless; however, once separated by white, the colors' distinctive differences come to life.
This green bedroom has a lively design perfect for a little rockstar. The vibrant green wall color is highlighted with black stripes and the zebra print comforter make this an eye-catching space. A desk at the foot of the bed provides a workspace and added storage and a chair in the corner is perfect for relaxing. A storage unit of cubbies next to the bed adds space for light and more storage containers.
Adding a whimsical touch, the white hanging chair is the ideal spot for reading or relaxing in this tween bedroom. White floating shelves are defined by cool brass hardware and display the tween's collection of vintage books. Two big woven bins make organization quick and easy.
Navy gingham bedding and green-lined pillows contrast against the bright yellow bed in this eclectic tween bedroom. The tween is a fan of Katniss from the Hunger Games, so wallpaper with an arrow motif was chosen as a subtle design hint. Contemporary black sconces pop off the wall and provide much-needed task lighting.
The most impactful design elements in this tween bedroom are the graphic, modern bull's-eyes painted on the focal wall. Hand-painted by family friend and painter Lou Kregel, each bull's-eye has five accent colors. From the outside in, the C2 Paints are: "Chamomile" C2-153, "Larkspur" C2-313, "Solo" C2-128, "Calypso" C2-089 and "Hydrangea" C2-315.
Inspired by Kate Spade, this tween girl's bedroom uses a chic, black and white color palette with light blue, hot pink and bright green accents to complement the design. The light blue, lofted bed doubles as a bookshelf to maximize space.
Modern glamour suggests pairing sophisticated, dramatic styles with unexpected elements. Rather than replacing the contractor-grade light fixture with a chandelier, a golden-toned farmhouse pendant was installed along with a formal ceiling medallion. The laid-back, playful and industrial vibe of the pendant puts a fresh spin on the otherwise girly and dramatic style.
The inspiration for this grand design was a dream catcher from the client’s mother. Like a dream catcher, the tween's room would have the perfect blend of colors, textures, patterns and materials. Urban elements were to be mixed with traditional, organic with geometric.
To make what was a juvenile, childish girl's room more appropriate for a growing tween, the walls were painted a deep shade of violet, album cover-inspired art was hung to create a focal point, vintage lighting was installed on the ceilings and the walls, and women's fashion fabrics were used in upholstered accents.
The bright turquoise walls and multicolor polka dot accent wall create a fun, colorful space in this tween's bedroom. Custom letter-shaped bookshelves add a personalized touch to the room and store books, picture frames and other treasures.
The wallpaper features an arrow motif that makes a strong, graphic statement, but incorporates elegant swirls to lend a feminine feel to this tween bedroom. Black sconces pick up on the black in the wallpaper and flank the bright yellow bed for task lighting.
A built-in desk area in this tween bedroom houses open storage for books and artwork, as well as plenty of workspace to do homework. Arrow-themed green wallpaper adds a graphic element to the space, while the bright yellow bed is dressed in simple white linens and patterned navy-and-white throw pillows.
