In a compact kitchen, a narrow, wheeled cart can be a space-savvy alternative to a traditional built-in island. “This custom-made walnut and stainless steel kitchen island was designed to save space and provide flexibility in the kitchen,” say designers Roy and Jen Leone. “The countertop is character-grade walnut butcher block ordered online, while the stainless steel base was fabricated by a local shop in Brooklyn. The island design allows stools to tuck under and out of the way when not in use or during a party. Also, the entire island can be rolled and then locked into place with locking casters.”
Maximizing all available space, this home office takes advantage of the extra square footage under the stairs. A minimalist and efficient work area is created with a simple table, pink file cabinet and wire-crate bookcases.
A decorative tile treatment continues from the walls onto the ceiling of this sleek, contemporary bathroom. The glassed-in shower makes maximum use of the room's small footprint, and a floating vanity adds to the space's ethereal feel.

A built-in dining table and shelf makes the most of limited space in this modern combo living/dining area. Printed wallpaper adds a layer of texture that complements the safari style of the other furnishings in the room.
