The garden at the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 leads to a final vignette, designed by Kate Webster and Thayer Hopkins, to inspire and encourage reflection. A brick path draws the eye toward the abstract, mirrored sculpture that reflects light and creates the illusion that the pillars are also decorated with the flowers.
To add a sense of drama, stack dental molding and crown molding several inches above the door frame. By painting the space in-between a matching white, it creates the illusion of the molding being much wider than it actually is––instant gratification!
Designers used their own mix of Benjamin Moore's "Deep Forest Green" and black to contrast with the lacy white railings and brackets. This dark green color also allows the lower base of the house to fade into the trees, creating the illusion of a tree house.
This contemporary dining space features a bay window and dark wood table with ladder backing chairs. The long mirror gives the illusion that the room is wider and the see through bookshelf gives an open feel while providing decor space and storage.
Decked out with colorful wall panels, distressed furniture and layered bed linens, this bedroom has a quaint cottage-style thanks to HGTV Design Star. By placing the bed between two doors, the illusion of headboard was instantly created. The sisal rug and coral sculpture lend a subtle coastal feel to the space.
Geometric black, brown and white penny tile covers one wall in a bathroom, while a rectangular mirror hangs on an adjoining wall. The mirror reflects the tile pattern, creating an optical illusion on that wall of the tile.
Plant, materials and decor in this space helps to create the illusion of a rainforest. Tropical foliage was planted to give the space an overgrown, jungle feeling. The wicker furniture and raw wood table make occupants feel as if they have set up camp in the middle of this rainforest oasis, while the lanterns and large pots give the feeling of a jungle adventure. All these details combine to create an outdoor oasis that is perfect for relaxing or entertaining.
The ottoman catches the eye in this stylish contemporary sitting room set up. The fabric gives a unique illusion of stitching, seems and a handle. The rest of the elements blend together with a more natural design. The neutral chairs are padded with patterned yellow pillows that draw from the yellow used in the colorful rug.
