To make this little boy's work space extra personal, designers had him work on paper crafts that they hung in the homework area above his desk. They also ordered coloring books, pencils, crayons and art supplies for the desk so that it was ready to use once the renovation was complete.
Each of the two homework nook's floating desks were configured with enough depth to accommodate books and games as well as laptop and desktop computers once the boys are old enough to use them for school. Instead of pairing the desks with themed children's chairs, midcentury-modern Bertoia chairs were added.
This small but bright and inviting spot, featuring a simple desk with built-in shelving above, is a perfect home office for a busy mom as well as a great homework room for the kids. The light colors on the walls and cabinetry contrast beautifully with the dark wood floors, projecting a sense of calm and order in the midst of even the most hectic day.
With places on the wall to pin homework, to do lists or whatever else, this desk is made with style and function in mind. The custom white cabinets also provide plenty of room for storage both above and below.
Off the homework area, the family room offers a comfortable space to relax. The built-in window seat serves as a sofa and is flanked by deep leather armchairs. A custom jute rug grounds the space and adds texture, while bright pillows add color and lightness to the space.
