The back of a burled walnut secretary is painted black to showcase a collection of antique barware and tinted glasses. The artful display of everyday items adds a personal touch and unrivaled character to any room.
A wall of windows showcases the lovely balcony just outside this living room. Low furniture and white surroundings open up the space for a stylish, modern look. A black bookshelf provides storage to keep the room organized and serves as a room divider to split the space.
A black bookshelf with cube-like shelving allows for ample storage space to stow away books and accessories. A beautiful wood chair provides extra space for stacking oft-used books, but can also easily serve as extra seating.
Previously, this room was covered with wood paneling, and the bookcases blended in with the walls. Now the bookcases pop against electric blue walls thanks to a coat of black paint and the direction of HGTV's Cousins Undercover.
A blue sofa, white wire chairs and a neutral area rug create a cozy contemporary sitting space. A large natural gray rock fireplace surround is a textural accent wall providing pleasing contrast to the smooth, sweet style of the seating. A built in bookshelf pops against the white walls and creates an organized space for storage and display.
This sophisticated play room is one that the children in the family will love for years to come given its flexible (and so chic!) black and white palette and open layout. Thin wall shelves let favorite children's books become colorful decor.
Fantastic built-in bookshelves climb up and over the doorway in this incredible contemporary open concept space. Hardwood floors and white walls and ceiling keep the home feeling bright and spacious while black trim adds crisp sophistication.
By editing art, accessories and knick knacks, switching out an area rug and painting the walls black, this dining area came to life. A beautiful midcentury modern dining table and cabinet bring organic warmth to the space.
This stately bookcase is befitting the award-winning residence of the chancellor of North Carolina State University. Designed by Design Lines, Ltd. and built by Rufty Homes, it was constructed as four boxes that were then set flush in-wall. We especially like the faceplate overlay with the black lacquer finish that serves to frame the bookcase. Note how it was also used on the baseboard where the cabinets are set, anchoring it to the room.
A thin black pencil-like floral pattern wall embellishment adds design and style to this white bookshelf. The design is heavy enough to make an impact, but understated enough to not disrupt the quaint, artistic display on the shelving. In addition to books, candlesticks, a glass collage mirror and sculpture art bring some color to the space.
